![]() Such diverse perspectives are essential to a more comprehensive understanding of the underlying nature of black holes. In contrast, gravitational wave detectors monitor stellar mass black holes that range from five to several dozen solar masses. The supermassive black hole at the center of M87 studied by the EHT collaboration is 6.5 billion times more massive than the sun. In addition to providing a brand-new test for all alternative formulations of gravity, it also connects the constraints from black hole images to those from other gravitational experiments. The new EHT paper focuses on a previously unexplored parameter space for black hole research. Gravitational waves propagate through the fabric of spacetime like ripples on a pond given the dynamic nature of spacetime as predicted by general relativity. Examples include the detection of gravitational waves at the Laser Interferometer Gravitational-Wave Observatory (LIGO). More recently, tests have been conducted to probe gravity outside the solar system and on a cosmological scale. During the 1919 solar eclipse, the first evidence of general relativity was seen based on the displacement of starlight, traveling along the curvature of spacetime caused by the sun’s gravity. Gravitational tests have been conducted in a variety of cosmic settings. The result is a murky no man’s land just beyond the point of no return, which appears to observers as a shadow. While light cannot escape from the interior of a black hole, it is possible-though unlikely-for light to escape from the region surrounding the event horizon, depending on its trajectory. ![]() Whereas a physical object casts a shadow by preventing light from passing through it, a black hole can create the effect of a shadow by siphoning light towards itself. The black hole shadow is unlike the shadows encountered in everyday life. “This test will be even more powerful once we image the black hole in the center of our own galaxy and in future EHT observations with additional telescopes that are being added to the array.” We have now shown that it is possible to use an image of a black hole to test the theory of gravity,” explained Medeiros. A test of gravity at the edge of a supermassive black hole represents a first for physics and offers further proof that Einstein’s theory remains intact even under the most extreme conditions. By measuring this visual distortion, the research team found that the size of the black hole shadow corroborates the predictions of general relativity. The intense gravity of a black hole curves spacetime, acting as a magnifying glass and causing the black hole shadow to appear larger. ![]() This research, published in Physical Review Letters, was led by Dimitrios Psaltis (IAS Member, 2001–03) of the University of Arizona, Lia Medeiros of the Institute for Advanced Study (IAS), and Feryal Özel (IAS Member, 2002–05) and Pierre Christian, both of the University of Arizona, and was co-authored by the EHT collaboration. Based on an analysis of the black hole’s shadow, the team conducted a unique test of general relativity, deepening understanding about the unusual properties of black holes and ruling out many alternatives. If a picture is worth a thousand words, what might the first horizon-scale image of a black hole tell us? A new paper by researchers from the Event Horizon Telescope (EHT) collaboration, which famously imaged M87’s central black hole, has provided a number of enlightening answers.

![]() As you’ll see, Luminar can achieve basically the same results as Photoshop but in a fraction of your time and cost, and in some cases this is a deal breaker. But if you are not a pro-Photoshop user or you want to combine the two software, then this is where Luminar really shines. ![]() Photoshop allows a level of manual editing that it’s simply not possible with tools such as Luminar. Pretty much all of the functionality it offers can be manually replicated in Photoshop IF you are an advanced user. I’ve been using Photoshop+Luminar 2018 for a long time to edit most of my pictures, but the latest version of Luminar combines the power of AI to help you speed up the photo-editing process, and the results are quite amazing.īefore digging deeper into some of the features of Luminar Neo let me clarify something. One of them is Luminar Neo, a software developed by Skylum, very well known for the quality of its products. I recently wrote a comprehensive guide that includes some of the best AI tools that every photographer should use, or at least be familiar with. Read my complete review and find out if it’s worth your money. you’ll pay €65 for one computer and €76 for two computers.Transform your photos with Luminar Neo, the all-in-one editing solution for photographers. For now, it’s still in the preorder stage and you can get it here. I hope that this article has helped to answer your questions about Luminar NEO and help you decide whether it’s worth buying or not. ![]() Skylum will continue to provide support for it, and we’ll let you know if this changes. Of course, you’ll have to buy a whole new software, although it will come with a discount if you’re already Skylum’s customer.īut worry not, if you’re not ready to pay for another software and you’re perfectly happy with Luminar 4, you can stick with it for now. Skylum encourages you to switch to Luminar NEO and offers migration tools to make it easier. If you’re a Luminar 4 user, sad news – this software will no longer be updated. ![]() Advertisementsīut where is the Luminar 4 in this whole story? How does it fit in? Luminar NEO vs. On the other hand, Luminar AI is made more for batch editing, like Lightroom. It’s focused on editing single images and creating artworks. Luminar NEO gives you a lot more options and creative features. In the language of my fellow Adobe CC users, Luminar NEO is closer to Photoshop, and Luminar AI is closer to Lightroom in terms of usability. Well, I’m not sure that we do, to be honest, but Skylum claims that there’s a significant difference between the two. It really has a bunch of options, and every new update gives you more control over the edits, which is something I definitely support. I used Luminar AI for quite some time while I was writing a review. Although, if you don’t know anything about light and composition, no editing software will help you. Also, if you take photos of your products yourself, you can pimp them up in Luminar NEO, too. Folks who have a small business and want to create visuals on their own could also benefit from Luminar NEO, considering that not everyone can or want to pay a designer. Still, I’m always more into learning how to do things yourself rather than allowing AI do it for you. Personally, I see a tool like this as mainly useful for new photographers. It’s heavily infused with AI technology, so it will do the difficult job instead of you and you can just apply the refinements if you want to. Luminar NEO is designed to be flexible, fast, and most importantly – easy to use. Briefly put, “it’s for people who like to edit.” Dmitry explained that Luminar NEO lets you focus more on your idea and what you want to achieve than thinking how to achieve it. However, Skylum CPO Dmitry Sytnik told DIYP that there’s more to it. When I first reported about Luminar Neo, I had the impression that it was created more for graphic designers than photographers. ![]() The game's all-new story picks up after Monster Hunter: World and whisks hunters away to the newly discovered chilly locale that, once fully explored, becomes the largest region in World so far. Once you get your lightsaber and the initial force powers the game does begin to pick up, but even then for a level or two it doesn’t hit its full groove. You won’t begin with any force powers or your trusty lightsaber, so initially you’ll be spending quite a bit of time blasting away with a variety of weapons and at that point the game is quite dull. Truthfully, until you get a good third of the way into the game, it can be a real drag. Why they weren’t done in real time or couldn’t have been cleaned up is a mystery.Ī final area of concern with the title that was true even in the excellent original PC version of the game is the pacing of the game. Add in the fact that the cinematic cutscenes that were rendered in real time on the PC have been pre-recorded for the consoles and look just downright terrible. This isn’t even being evaluated on a nitpicker’s scale of fluidity average gamers won’t be able to help but notice all sorts of graphical glitches here and there in the game, and yet there are still much more attractive games on the system without these problems. It generally isn’t a good sign when you’re starting up the first level in the game and you already can begin to see stutters and jitters in the framerate. In the PC title there was a good flow to the controls aided by the mouse, but with the move to the GameCube, it feels like the array of moves has been abbreviated or at least doesn’t come across as effectively.Īnother area where things can get downright painful is in terms of graphics. A final element for which the console control unfortunately falls short is in the control of the lightsaber. One area that complicates matters even more is that there are many levels and areas with places to fall to your death all around, and any flaky control makes this sort of thing even more frustrating. Unlike some other console shooters, there is a real need to move and aim at the same time in Jedi Outcast if you wish to be effective, and the controls simply don’t make this workable. None of the available control schemes in Outcast ever feel natural or fluid in any. Let’s face it: with the exception of a handful of titles, it is absolutely unbearable to play first-person shooters on a console system. The foremost problem in the game is unfortunately one of the most crucial, and that is in the area of control. While the core gameplay hasn’t changed in the move to the GameCube, unfortunately the great game waiting to be experienced has a wide variety of obstacles standing in the way of this conversion being at all enjoyable. In addition, you’ll also be challenged to make use of various force powers in order to overcome obstacles and occasionally maybe force push a stormtrooper or two off a cliff. Through the course of the game you’ll make use of a variety of weapons, of course including the versatile and ultra-cool lightsaber itself. In the game you’ll take control of Kyle Katarn, an ex-Jedi and mercenary, who gets drawn back into the fray through a series of events beyond his control that could threaten the galaxy. ![]() Jedi Outcast is most definitely one of these titles. That isn’t to say that bad games are being converted from the PC market just that many good PC games don’t work well or are poorly executed on console systems. In one particular area, specifically with ports of games from the PC, there is usually more bad than good. In the console world there are definitely some pros and cons to buying a system that is deemed viable by a wide variety of publishers. ![]() Records the default button state of the corresponding category & the status of CCPA.
